On December 16, 2023, a total of 2,451 students marked their graduation at the 8th Congregation Ceremony of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR). The event, adorned with vibrant celebrations, took place at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium and was honored by the presence of the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene. The ceremony revolved around the theme “Empowering Future Leaders Through STEAM Education.”
Addressing the audience as the Special Guest of Honour, the Regional Minister emphasized the significance of ethical leadership and encouraged the graduates to make integrity and ethics their guiding principles. She urged them to ensure that their decisions not only foster the growth of their organizations but also demonstrate a dedication to social and environmental responsibility. Additionally, she advised the graduates to embrace challenges, value opportunities, and consistently pursue excellence in their endeavors.

The Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Kwasi Nsiah-Gyabaah addressing the Congregation said the University has over the years been committed to providing a holistic education that integrates the principles of STEAM. Adding that STEAM education is a gateway for understanding the complex world and fosters critical thinking, connects core subjects and makes learning an exciting journey. He commended faculty for achieving over 1,000 publications indexed in Scopus journals and assured the University Management of the Council’s support in its effort to become an acclaimed Research University and an icon in STEAM education globally.

The Council Chairman called on the graduates to constantly remember the University’s motto “Integrity, Knowledge, Impact” and be inspired in all they do and advised them to build bridges amongst themselves and not walls.
In his report to the Congregation, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako disclosed that a total number of 2,451 students had met the requirements to be awarded various certifications. He explained that two thousand one hundred and fifty-nine (2,159) of them representing 88.09% earned bachelor degrees, 178, representing 7.26% achieved diplomas, while 114, representing 4.65% reached the pinnacle of academic excellence by attaining postgraduate qualifications. Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor mentioned that 1,496 representing 65.28% are males and 851 representing 34.72% are graduates. He remarked that the numbers underscore the strides the University continues to make towards gender parity in education.

A BSc. Nursing student, Ms. Akanyare Deborah with a GPA of 3.94 was the Valedictorian for the 2023 graduating class. She received six (6) awards in recognition of her academic excellence.
