UENR GRADUATES JUNIOR STAFF AT GROUNDS, GARDEN AND BEAUTIFICATION SECTION AHEAD OF GREENING SUNYANI AGENDA

The University of Energy and Natural Resources through the Grounds, Garden and Beautification Unit has contributed to the national flagship programme dubbed “Green Ghana Project to plant 5million trees”. The Unit graduated 26 Junior Staff after a 10-day training workshop geared towards efforts to make the Sunyani Municipality greener. This special event took place on the 28th May 2021 at the University’s Auditorium under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, making it the maiden edition of such an event.

Giving a brief report on the training, the Curator at the Grounds, Garden and Beautification Unit, Mr. Ebenezer Abuaku narrated the series of activities that participants were taken through. According to him, participants were taken through classroom lessons, field practical as well as a field trip to the Parks and Gardens, Sunyani Regional Office.

 Addressing the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako made it known to the graduating staff how happy and overwhelmed he was for their training. He was optimistic that their training will go a long way to help the teaching and learning purpose of the university stressing the benefits students, staff and visitors will stand to gain from their role in beautifying the environment. He stressed the therapeutic effect of a serene and beautiful environment when it comes to releasing stress in a learning environment. He used the opportunity to congratulate the facilitators for organizing such a great event and the graduating students as well for participating in the training workshop.

 A certificate was presented to each participant by the Registrar, Solomon Panford, ESQ, APR. Followed by a special presentation to hardworking and productive staff during the workshop by Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Vice-Chancellor. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Felix Adekoya presented to facilitators a certificate for their hard work.

 Mr. Haruna Yussif, the Course Representative for the workshop was impressed about some of the courses learnt which included maintenance of landscape designs and occupational health and safety issues, etc. He accepted the fact that the training will have a very positive impact on their lives and further acknowledged the facilitators and the management for organizing such a workshop. He further admonished his fellow members to make good use of their training to contribute their quota to the success of the University.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Elvis Asare – Bediako used the occasion to inform the university community that there may be series of training for the various levels and that will help achieve the mission of the university when staff is equipped with the necessary skills and responsibilities. Other personalities present were the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, Deans and Directors as well as other heads of Departments and Units.
