UENR HOST PROFESSOR CHUKWUEMEKA JUDE DIJI OF KAMPALA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY, UGANDA

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, hosted the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Kampala International University in Uganda, Professor Chukwuemeka Jude Diji. The visit was a result of the long-standing relationship that existed between him and the Dean of International Relations Office -UENR, Dr. Amos T. Kabobah.

Professor Jude Diji’s five-day visit to the University was used to hold thoughtful discussions with management on pertinent issues to make both Universities visible in the African continent and beyond, as well as develop potential areas of partnership.

Disclosing the purpose of his visit, when he called on the Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako at his office, Professor Jude Diji acknowledged that creating a historic system is paramount to build collaborative institutions across nations. He recounted the various projects that involved some lecturers in UENR and the University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he formerly worked, which led to the establishment of the Regional Centre for Energy and Sustainability (RCEES) in UENR.

Prof. Jude Diji shared his opinion on how skills and knowledge could be exchanged between East African and West African Universities. This, he further said would improve international admissions to the University. “It is high time we begin to learn and exchange knowledge among universities in Africa to let the world know what we can also do,” he added. Prof. Jude Diji disclosed to the Vice-Chancellor, his readiness to collaborate and build an institute of Climate and Transport in UENR to facilitate research activities in the sub-region. Lastly, he thanked the University for the Warm Reception given to him.

Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako in his welcome statement expressed his appreciation to Prof. Jude Diji for deciding to visit and share his knowledge and expertise with the University. He expressed confidence that a mutually beneficial partnership with both institutions would evolve from the visit.

Other notable activities which formed part of Professor Jude Diji’s stay at UENR included meetings with the Deans, Heads of Departments and some Centres in the University. Again, He lectured some postgraduate students on topics such as “The Challenges of Energy Transition in West Africa; and Energy and Entrepreneurship: The Tripod for Economic Development of West Africa.”
