In a generous display of support for educational innovation, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has demonstrated its support towards Dr. Peter Appiahene’s visionary initiative aimed at enhancing technological access in academia. The initiative, aptly named ‘One Lecturer, One Computer,’ spearheaded by the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences, marks a pivotal moment in advancing digital literacy within the university community.
On the 19th of March 2024, the NCA demonstrated its commitment to this cause by donating five high-performance HP desktop computers, valued at over One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis, to the department. Mr. Michael Opoku, representing the department, gratefully received the computers, which symbolize a tangible investment in fostering a tech-enabled learning environment.
Subsequently, on March 21, 2024 the department ceremoniously presented the computers to the university management, underscoring the collaborative efforts aimed at bridging the digital divide in academia. The Vice-Chancellor commended the department’s proactive approach and encouraged other departments to emulate Dr. Peter Appiahene’s pioneering spirit in leveraging technology for educational enrichment.
Dr. Peter Appiahene, upon assuming his role as the head of the department, prioritized initiatives such as ‘One Lecturer, One Computer’ and ‘One Student, One Computer.’ With the recent donation, the department now boasts a total of seven computers dedicated to faculty members, marking significant progress towards achieving this goal. Additionally, plans are underway to complete a dedicated student computer laboratory within the next two months.
While celebrating the achievements thus far, the department remains cognizant of the ongoing need for support to realize the ‘One Student, the department appeals for continued support to ensure equitable access to technology for all students, thereby empowering them for success in the digital age.
