UENR’s 3rd Annual Tech Fair: A Leap Towards Ghana’s Digital Future

Dr. Peter Appiahene, Head of the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences at UENR, addressed the press regarding the upcoming 3rd Annual Tech Fair, set to be the largest technology event in Ghana’s history. The event aims to significantly impact the nation’s digitalization efforts.

Dr. Appiahene highlighted the department’s growth and achievements. He established that the Department which was created from the Department of Computer Sciences and Informatics, now has a student population of 2,072. He disclosed that the department offers undergraduate programs in IT and plans to introduce postgraduate programs. Since 2019, the department has graduated nearly 1,000 students, emphasizing its commitment to tech education and innovation.

Speaking on the Tech Fair’s theme, “The Future is Now: Integrating Digitalization in Ghana’s Developmental Agenda,” he underscores the critical role of digital technologies in national development. According to him, the event is to showcase digital tools and foster discussions on their effective implementation, highlighting the necessity of digitalization for Ghana’s growth.

He further revealed that the event will feature notable guests, including Hon. Justina Awo Owusu-Banahene, Bono Regional Minister; Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice-Chancellor of UENR; Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of  Communications and Digitalization; Hon. Samuel Nartey George, MP for Prampram; Prof. Samuel Fosu Gyasi, Dean of the School of Sciences; Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, CEO of Ghana Digital Centers Ltd.; Mr. Joe Anokye, Director General of National Communications Authority and Commissioner Dr. Peter Appiahene.

Highlighting on the program, he pointed out that there was be a Policy Dialogue where political representatives discuss the integration of digitalization into Ghana’s developmental agenda. He explained that there will be presentations and insights from Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and Hon. Sam George on their visions for digitalization in Ghana and finally a poster presentation by Students to Showcase over 50 innovative tech applications developed by students.
