The University Relations Office (URO) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has undertaken a benchmarking visit to two leading university-based media houses as part of efforts to enhance campus media operations, content production, and institutional communication strategies.
The study tour, which took place from July 13 to 17, 2026, took the URO team to Atlantic FM (ATL FM 100.5 MHz) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Focus FM 94.3 MHz of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where the team explored best practices in institutional broadcasting, digital newsroom management, audience engagement and media sustainability.
At UCC, the team was received by the General Manager of Campus Broadcasting Services, Mr Daniel Owusu, who provided insights into the station’s organizational structure, programming, newsroom operations, and content development processes.

As part of the engagement, members of the URO team participated in an on-air interview segment on ATL FM, where they shared the objectives of the benchmarking visit and highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration among university media institutions.
The Head of URO, Dr Alfred Ohenenana Appiah, emphasized the need for stronger inter-university media partnerships, including joint news production, content sharing, and knowledge exchange among campus-based media organizations.
At KNUST, the team visited Focus FM 94.3 MHz, where the team examined the station’s operational framework, including its podcast production facilities, digital publishing systems, and commercial broadcasting strategies.

The visit also provided the URO team with valuable insights into how university media platforms can be positioned as strategic communication tools for promoting institutional achievements, research outputs, community engagement and stakeholder relations.
The benchmarking exercise forms part of UENR’s broader efforts to strengthen its communication ecosystem, improve digital storytelling and enhance the visibility of the University’s activities through effective media operations.
