The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Prof. Harrison K. Dapaah has commissioned a new studio for the University Radio Station, Greena FM 95.9. The event, which took place at the premises of the radio station was in line with the week-long celebration to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the radio station since its inception.
The Manager of the radio station, Mr David Twumasi-Ankrah gave a brief history of the establishment of the station. In his delivery, the Manager said the station was established in 2015 and has made various strides to become one of the best radio stations in the region. He outlined some of the challenges and successes the station has chalked over the last five years in the areas of news, education, entertainment and social intervention programs.
“As a campus radio station, Greena FM 95.9 has a strong affiliation to Citi FM 97.3 in Accra. This affiliation gives Greena FM 95.9 the opportunity to rebroadcast some of their programs such as the Citi breakfast show, News, FamLife, and The Big Issue. The station also has its programming structured around a variety of programs which seeks to educate its listeners in the areas of natural resources, energy, entrepreneurship and languages.” the Manager added.
Acknowledging the efforts of the Management and Staff of the station, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his profound satisfaction with the efforts that have gone into making Greena FM 95.9 the most relevant urban radio station in Sunyani. He urged the staff to keep up the good work that has contributed to the massive growth of the station in the region. He also expressed interest in expanding Greena FM 95.9 to house a TV station.
Other members of the University Management present at the commissioning ceremony were the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Felix Adekoya; the Registrar, Mr Solomon Panford; the Director of Finance, Mr Abdulai Banan; the Dean of Students, Dr Dominic Otoo and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies; Prof. John Kuwornu. They were led by the Manager to take a tour through the new studio of the radio station.
