The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako in the past few days engaged several key stakeholders in Accra in his quest to strengthen partnership with stakeholders in achieving the vision and mission of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
A delegation from the University led by the Vice-Chancellor on March 29, 2021, paid a working visit to Prof. Mohammed Salifu, the Director-General of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in Accra. The meeting was primarily to discuss issues pertaining to the accreditation of some programmes of the institution.
The University was reminded to take note and apply itself to article 36(1) of the Education Regulatory Act 1023.
On March 30, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Elvis Asare Bediako and his entourage paid courtesy calls on the Ag.CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), the Director-General of NaDMO and the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat.
The working visit to the Ag.CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr. Nelson Owusu Ansah at his office was also to explore areas of possible collaboration and to discuss how to adequately build capacities of students to be innovative, creative thinkers and problem solvers.
Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Owusu Ansah pointed out steps being undertaken by NYA to properly reposition itself while developing and implementing appropriate interventions tailor-measured and relevant in addressing the pressing needs of the youth, particularly young university graduates thereby making them globally competitive.
He again informed the UENR Team of the acceptance of the Students Skills Development proposal submitted to the Authority by the university which is to be officially launched in the shortest possible time.
Mr. Nelson Owusu-Ansah encouraged the University to take advantage of the Africa Continental Free Trade Centre, which is established in Ghana as a result of the French background of its students.
The Vice-Chancellor, in his turn, thanked the Ag. CEO for the warm reception and touched on the immediate focus of the university which is to groom and arm graduates holistically to enable them to fit into the contemporary place of work.
The meeting with the Director-General of NADMO, Hon. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh discussed a number of mutually beneficial issues, including the training of NADMO staff on fire and flood disasters.
The meeting agreed on the need to renew the MoU between the two institutions and also to develop tailored programmes; certificate, diploma, degree, master, PGD etc. for the staff of NADMO. There was a deliberation on the establishment of a national disaster institute that will be affiliated with UENR.
It was further discussed that the two (2) institutions will work together on an outer space technology, which would ensure effective early warning systems for disaster management.
At the Scholarship Secretariat, the Director of Operations, Mr. Setor received the Vice-Chancellor and his delegation on behalf of the Registrar. The team at the Scholarship Secretariat in principle agreed to support UENR French students Year Abroad Study. The University delegation was encouraged to officially write to the Secretariat for a special dispensation for staff development.
On March 31, 2021, the University delegation as well paid a working visit to the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Minister of Education.
The meeting at the GNFS consented to the need for the two (2) Institutions to renew their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It was further discussed for UENR to develop tailored programmes; certificate, diploma, degree, master, PGD etc. for the staff of GNFS.
In the final discussions, it was of the opinion that UENR uses part of its training facilities for the activities of NADMO.
The delegation made its final courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. The UENR Team submitted a document for the attention of the sector Minister on the selection of the University by the UN to host the 5th United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Conference in November 2021.
In the quest to enhance our University-Media relationship, the Vice-Chancellor and his delegation visited the Media General, TV3. It was agreed that UENR and TV3 will have an MoU that will allow for stronger collaboration, especially for the engagement of experts on the national discourse.
The UENR delegation for the stakeholder engagements included Prof. George Kankam, Council Chairman, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Solomon Panford Esq., Registrar, Mr. Albert Banan, Director of Finance, Mr. David Twumasi-Ankrah, University Relations Officer, Mr. James Clarke Hayford, Junior Assistant Registrar, Institutional Advancement, Dr. Amos Kabo-bah, a Senior Lecturer and Mr. Richard Baffour Okyere, Lecturer.
