VICE PRESIDENT CHARGES UENR GRADUANDS TO EMBRACE ETHICAL INNOVATION

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) on 13th December 2025 held its 10th Congregation Ceremony at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium, Sunyani Campus. The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

Reflecting on the theme, “Embracing Excellence in Innovation for an Impactful Sustainable Future: The Technologian Perspective,” the Vice President advised graduands to complement the technical skills they had acquired with ethical responsibility, creativity, and humility. She emphasized that an impactful and sustainable future requires technologies that are affordable, resilient, and responsive to community realities.

H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang further charged the graduands to emerge as innovative leaders capable of translating knowledge into policies, enterprises, and services that improve lives and advance national development.

In a passionate appeal, the Vice President called on industry players to strengthen collaboration with UENR to advance the University’s mandate. She urged industries to invest in research, support innovation incubators, and create pathways for promising technologies to reach the market. She also reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and create jobs.

Quoting a line from the University Anthem, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, admonished the graduands to break forth, urging them to step confidently into the world as technologians trained to innovate and make meaningful impact. He reminded them of their responsibility to translate promise into practice and potential into service.

At the ceremony, a total of 2,336 students were awarded various academic degrees, comprising 16 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduates, 218 Master’s Degree recipients, 1,867 Bachelor of Science graduates, and 235 Diploma awardees. Of the total number of graduands, 1,381 (66%) were males, while 955 (34%) were females.

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) celebrated outstanding academic excellence, leadership, and resilience at its 10th Congregation held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, when Miss Jennifer Addae emerged as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2025, graduating with an exceptional Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.95.

A graduate of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Jennifer Addae distinguished herself through consistent academic brilliance and exemplary student leadership. She was adjudged Outstanding Student in the Department of Chemical Sciences for four consecutive years, a remarkable achievement that underscores her discipline, intellectual depth, and sustained commitment to excellence.

Born to Mr. Philip Addae, a farmer, and Mrs. Akosua Afrah, a seamstress, Jennifer’s academic journey reflects perseverance, humility, and strong family values. She began her basic education at Christ Redeemer Junior High School under the headship of Mr. Justice Dontoh, and later attended Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School, where her passion for science and academic excellence was further nurtured.

During her undergraduate studies at UENR, Jennifer held several leadership positions, including Women’s Commissioner for the Department of Chemical Sciences, National Women’s Commissioner for the Ghana Students Chemical Society, and General Secretary of the American Chemical Society (UENR Chapter). Through these roles, she actively promoted student advocacy, gender empowerment, and professional development within the scientific community.

Delivering the valedictory address on behalf of the graduating class, Jennifer described the Class of 2025 as one shaped by resilience, endurance, and purpose. She expressed profound gratitude to God, the University Council, management, lecturers; particularly faculty members of the Department of Chemical Sciences, and families whose sacrifices made the graduates’ success possible.

Reflecting on the UENR experience, she highlighted the rigors of academic life, including intensive laboratory sessions, early morning lectures, group projects, and personal and financial challenges, noting that each certificate awarded symbolized courage, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Looking ahead, Jennifer challenged her colleagues to confront global and national challenges such as climate change, unemployment, and economic uncertainty with confidence and innovation. She reminded them of their identity as UENR graduates; “The Technologians”, trained to solve problems, innovate responsibly, and lead societal transformation.

She concluded by urging the Class of 2025 to see their degrees not merely as credentials but as commitments to service, sustainability, and excellence. Her address ended with a call for graduates to carry forward the values of UENR and to contribute meaningfully to Ghana and the global community.

Jennifer Addae’s achievement, marked by an outstanding CGPA of 3.95, exemplifies the University of Energy and Natural Resources’ commitment to academic excellence, leadership development, and the training of future-ready graduates.
