The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako has advised the International Students of the University not to show an attitude of disparity towards each other regardless of their difference in nationality. He said no student should feel left out in any activity on campus because “We are all one people”.
He was speaking at an interaction session with the International students, organized by the International Relations Office. The meeting was to allow the Vice-Chancellor to engage with the students, identify their challenges, the way forward, and to commend their efforts as a student of the University.
Prof. Asare-Bediako lauded the students for their resilience to study in Ghana despite opportunities in other countries. He urged them to stay positive amidst the challenges on campus and be good ambassadors of UENR in their home countries which would contribute to giving UENR international recognition. The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged the students to channel their grievances through the International Relations Office (IRO) for onwards attention.
The Acting Dean of International Relations Office, Dr. Amos Kabo-bah addressing some concerns of the students mentioned that the Office is gradually gaining ground since its institution recently. He made the students aware that the Office would strongly collaborate with the International Students Association to develop strategic plans for the wellbeing of foreign students in UENR. He further outlined measures being put in place to formulate a mentorship policy where International students would be assigned a mentor who had experience from their mentee’s country. This he said would help intervene for foreign students who with any challenges on campus as well as make them feel at home.
The President of the International Students Association (IRO), Mr. Moustafa Acakpo on behalf of the international students expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and Ag. Dean of IRO for their relentless supports whenever the association called on management. He assured their contributive efforts towards making UENR an international University.
