Dr. Benjamin Batinge is a Research Fellow at the University of Energy and Natural Resources’ Regional Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES). He also worked as a Climate Finance and Policy Consultant with Sustainable Solutions for Africa (SSA). Dr Batinge has previously worked as a Climate Finance Consultant for the United Nations’ (UN) Climate Technology Centre Network and as a Senior Researcher with DNV GL’s Energy Transition unit in Oslo, Norway. Additionally, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and a visiting lecturer at Mozambique’s Eduardo Mondlane University. He has provided consulting services to a variety of organisations, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Liberian government. Dr. Batinge holds a PhD in Public and Development Management from Stellenbosch University, an MPhil in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen, and a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Ghana. His research interests include energy transitions, energy access in developing countries, renewable energy and assessment of energy access, climate change and its effects on infrastructure, and sustainable development.
