DAVID ADU-POKU

Prof. David Adu-Poku is an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemical Sciences and the current Coordinator of the Centre for Distance Education and E-Learning (CeDEEL) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, Ghana.
He holds a BSc. (Hons) Chemistry from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana and a PhD in Physical/Analytical Chemistry from the University of Huddersfield, UK. Professionally, Prof. Adu-Poku also holds an MA Professional Development (International Education) from the University of Huddersfield, UK and a 3-Year Postsecondary Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from the Wesley College of Education, Ghana.

His principal research interest focuses on surface science; encompassing kinetic studies on the dynamics of adsorption and desorption processes, synthesis and characterization of novel micro-/nanostructured photocatalysts for a wide range of applications including clean energy, soil and water remediation against pharmaceuticals, dyes and pesticide residues. He has an excellent research experience and a good track-record for publication in scientifically recognized peer-review journals. He enjoys international collaboration and mentorship across different disciplines.
Nationally, he is an Assessor for GTEC in programme accreditation and also serves as an external Assessor for many public universities such as KNUST, KsTU, and UMaT. Internationally, he reviews for a number of global peer-reviewed scientific journals including the Scientific World Journal (Wiley), Water Environment Research (Wiley), Chemistry Select (Wiley), Food Biophysics (Springer), Heliyon (Elsevier), Journal of Food Engineering (Elsevier), Food and Bioproducts Processing (Elsevier), Science of the Total Environment (Elsevier), Environmental Science and Pollution Research (Springer), Applied Food Research (Elsevier), Scientific African (Elsevier), Journal of The Ghana Science Association etc.
Prof. Adu-Poku also holds a membership to many professional bodies such as the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) UK, Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), UK, Commonwealth Scholars & Fellows Alumni, Ghana (CoSFAG), Ghana Chemical Society (GCS), Ghana Science Association-Sunyani Branch (GSA) and University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), UNER-Local.
He has served in various capacities such as the Head of Chemical Sciences Department, School of Sciences Postgraduate Coordinator, been a chairman and member of several Committees and also served on several boards at different levels (i.e., Academic, Graduate School, School of Sciences, CeDEEL etc)
