Isaac Williams is a Senior Research Assistant at the Centre for Research in Applied Biology (CeRAB), Ghana, and an MPhil candidate in Microbiology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He holds a BSc in Biological Science from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR). His research focuses on molecular diagnostics, infectious disease surveillance, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in both clinical and environmental contexts. His current thesis involves developing a quantitative PCR assay for the simultaneous detection of high-risk Human Papillomavirus (hr-HPV) and Schistosoma haematobium. This one-sample, dual-diagnosis approach aims to improve screening uptake and early detection for Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) and HPV infections in resource-limited settings. Isaac has contributed to studies on investigating ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in hospital wastewater and clinical samples, addressing key AMR challenges and schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths in Ghanaian communities. At CeRAB, he leads the microbiological and molecular biology Units, mentors students, and collaborates on national and international projects to advance diagnostics and public health research.
