Richard Kyere-Boateng holds a PhD in Spatial Planning from the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava, Slovakia, an MPhil in Development Studies (University of Ghana, ISSER, Legon) and a B. ED in Population and Family Life (University of Cape Coast, Ghana). He also holds a 3-year Teacher Certificate ‘A’ from Berekum Training College, now Berekum College of Education. Richard started his career as a professionally trained teacher and had taught in several schools in Ghana. Currently, he is a lecturer at the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), where he teaches undergraduate and graduate students. His research interests and perspectives are interdisciplinary, including Ecosystem services, Spatial planning and climate change governance, Global change responses and sustainable development, Social-ecological dimensions of ecosystem services governance, Environmental sustainability planning and governance, Climate change mitigation and adaptation, Global environmental change drivers research, Forest carbon governance, Environment and Development. Richard has been involved in several national and international research teams to conduct research from interdisciplinary perspectives. During his studies at Legon, between 2009-2011, Richard was involved in several research activities, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which conducted a research project on Domestic and International Companies in Ghana. He was also a team member of Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) research activities in Ghana’s Northern, middle belt and Southern agricultural zones. Richard also studied and joined the research team at the Department of the Human Dimensions of Global Change, Global Change Research Institute (Czechglobe) Czech Academy of Sciences, The Czech Republic. He is appointed an external scientist in the department due to his enthusiasm, hard work and dedication. During his PhD studies at STU, Richard was a research team member of the Centre for Transdisciplinary Study of Institutions, Evolutions and Policies that visited the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (Germany) and InnoForEst, Trento (Italy) to experiment on the Waldaktie Forestry Certification Game. The experiment aimed to find appropriate forest governance approaches to curtail deforestation and forest degradation. Currently, he is involved in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) project on the Role of Ghanaian Tropical Forest in Greenhouse Gas Exchange and Carbon Sequestration and Sustainability Program. He is also affiliated with the Earth Observation Research & Innovation Centre at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, Ghana. Richard is a member of reputable international/professional societies such as the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) and the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
