LEVERAGE THE DIGITAL AGE FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS ─ VICE-CHANCELLOR TO UENR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS , University of Energy and Natural Resources - Sunyani

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has urged the first-year students of the University to leverage the vast opportunities presented by the digital age to achieve academic success. Acknowledging the transformative power of technology in education, Prof. Asare-Bediako emphasized the importance of embracing online learning platforms to supplement traditional classroom experiences.

The Vice-Chancellor made mention of this when he was addressing the first-year students at the 12th Matriculation Ceremony of the University which was held virtually but transmitted from the Council Chamber on Friday, March 22, 2024.

 Speaking further, Prof. Asare-Bediako disclosed that this year, a total of 4,659 students were enrolled into the various programmes for the 20233/20244 academic year, marking a significant milestone in the University’s ongoing commitment to providing quality education and fostering academic excellence. Out of the total enrollment, 4,412 students have enrolled into undergraduate programmes, while 247 students have enrolled into postgraduate studies, contributing to the vibrant academic community at UENR.

While acknowledging infrastructure challenges faced by the university, Prof. Asare-Bediako reassured students of ongoing efforts to enhance learning environments and support academic endeavors. Despite these, he said the University has chalked various achievements that cannot be underrated, adding that the Matriculants made the best choice to study at UENR.

Advising them, Prof. Asare-Bediako stressed the importance of self-discipline, responsibility, and adherence to university regulations and urged them to actively participate in extracurricular activities, seek guidance from academic counselors, and uphold values of integrity and respect.

With warm congratulations, the Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence in the potential of the matriculating students to excel academically and make meaningful contributions to society.

Ms. Mary Foli, a Level 100/BSc. Biochemistry student who spoke on behalf of all matriculants of the 2023/2024 academic year expressed gratitude for the university’s embrace of technological advancements, particularly in the online application and registration processes, which streamlined administrative procedures and enhanced efficiency.

She highlighted the matriculating students’ collective aspiration to excel academically and emerge as competitive candidates in the job market, underscoring their dedication to their respective fields of study. She pledged the matriculation class of 20244’s commitment to upholding the rules and regulations of UENR, expressing gratitude to parents, guardians, and university authorities for the opportunity to realize their dreams.

The Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Georgina Asi Owusu led the Matriculants to administer the Matriculation Oath.
