The Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSIT) in partnership with the Earth Observation Research and Innovation Center (EORIC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani opened a weeklong capacity-building workshop for stakeholders in the government, private, and research sector in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on Water and Agriculture.

The weeklong training program aimed at training participants to use earth observation data to monitor the SDGs with a primary focus on water and agriculture. 

Speaking at the opening of the program, Prof. Amos T. Kabo-Bah a lecturer at the School of Engineering disclosed that the University has put plans in place to host an international postgraduate program on Sustainable Land Management from next year (2022). He added that the postgraduate program on Sustainable Land Management would go a long way to help farmers in the agricultural sector to get better returns on their farming businesses. Stressing that, countries like China are vigorously going into Cocoa farming hence the need for Ghana to fight hard to maintain its spot as a top Cocoa growing country in the world.

Stakeholders for the workshop were the Ministry of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Water Resources Commission, and the Earth Observation Research and Innovation Center (EORIC – UENR) with experts from the research sciences of Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute as facilitators.
