
Global mining technology leader Metso Corporation has strengthened its presence in West Africa through a strategic partnership with the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), aimed at advancing sustainable mining, industrial growth, and manpower development in the region.
At the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between UENR and Metso Mineral Ghana Limited on February 25, 2026, the Vice President – West Africa, Metso Corporation, Dr. Enoch Kusi Yeboah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to deepening its footprint in the sub-region through meaningful partnerships.
Metso, headquartered in Finland, operates in more than 50 countries with over 17,000 employees worldwide and is recognised for providing end-to-end sustainable solutions in mineral processing, construction, and metal refining. Despite its global scale, Dr. Yeboah noted that the company is eager to expand its impact within West Africa.
He emphasized that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is intended to produce tangible results rather than remain symbolic adding that while strategic industrial partnerships take time to mature; the long-term benefits for the region would be significant.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, described the partnership as a major milestone in the University’s vision of becoming a hub for industrial manpower and sustainable mining innovation.
Prof. Asare-Bediako stressed that achieving the University’s ambitious goals requires strong partnerships aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He described the collaboration with Metso Mineral Ghana Limited as a critical link between academic training and the practical needs of the mining and natural resource sectors.
The partnership is expected to strengthen capacity development, enhance technical training, and provide the requisite skilled manpower to transform Ghana’s natural resource wealth into sustainable economic growth.
