The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Bono Regional Office, has visited the Department of Basic and Applied Biology to begin the process of indexing student nurses in the University. This comes after the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has given academic accreditation to the University to run the BSc. Nursing programme. As part of the visit, the team inspected the Skills Laboratory, Lecture Halls and other facilities in the University.
The team led by the Bono Regional Officer of NMC, Mrs. Bernice Konamah Gyau called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako at his office to deliberate on measures to put in place to ensure that Nurses trained from UENR are competent and well equipped for the job world.
In her remarks, the Officer was pleased with the efforts made by the University so far to train nurses to support the health sector in the country. She recommended that student nurses in UENR should be trained to be adaptable to any environment and to fit in the NMC’s code of conduct at the end of their study. Also, she assured the Council’s support to the University in providing the necessary professional advice and guidelines for the BSc. Nursing Programme.
The Vice-Chancellor, in his response, thanked the NMC for their immense support given to the university to secure both academic and professional accreditation for the Nursing programme. He gave assurance to the Council that the requisite facilities needed for training quality Nurses would be made available to ensure effective teaching and learning on campus. He was positive that Nurses produced from UENR would be exceptional in the field of work.
Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq., APR; The Head of Department of Basic and Applied Biology, Dr. Emmanuel Timmy Donkoh and other Lecturers from the Department.
