Pursuant to the established partnership of the University of Energy and Natural Resources’ (UENR) with 28 other universities and municipalities from seven (7) countries, across Africa and Europe on the REFFECT Africa project, the UENR team on January 20, 2022 called on stakeholders and beneficiaries at Sawla in the Savanna Region of Ghana.
The visit formed part of activities of the initial phase of implementation of the project, which afforded the team to engage key officials at the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly and NASCO Feeding Minds as partners, and officials from NEDCo, MoFA, Ghana Health Service, Chiefs and Chiefs of Sawla as stakeholders.
The Project Coordinator, Dr. Edward Awafo explained the role of UENR on the project at the meetings held with the stakeholders. He assured them that UENR has the requisite competence and expertise to provide technical and research support to ensure effective implementation and sustenance of the project. In addition, Dr. Awafo spelled out that the overall goal of the project is to achieve sustainable energy supply for enhanced electricity access, sustainable health care delivery and ICT education and to provide organic fertilizer to enhance agricultural production by valorising farm residues. He added that the project would create employment opportunities for the youth who would feed the electricity plant with the agricultural waste to generate power as well as encourage them to venture into farming.
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Braimah Murtal on behalf of the District Chief Executive thanked the team for siting the project in the District. He was confident that the project would go a long way to alleviate economic hardship and reduce the menace of agricultural wastes in the area. The stakeholders assured UENR and all partners of their support and cooperation of the project.
