The Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre (EORIC) in collaboration with the 2019 Carnegie Diaspora Fellowship programme has presented a new Phantom DJI drone worth 2,000 Dollars to the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in aid of teaching and research purposes.
Presenting the drone to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Harrison Dapaah at his office, the head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr Amos Kabo-bah said the drone was procured after he jointly conducted a fellowship programme with Prof. Henry Bulley, City University of New York in the United States.
He explained that the motive behind the purchase of the drone is to support research activities especially for postgraduate students whose dissertation will need to capture some real-time images as data. Dr Kabo-bah further said short courses will soon be rolled out to train students on how to operate the drone to gather filmed data.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his appreciation on behalf of management to Dr Kabo-bah and his team for their kind gesture. He added that it is of much importance for students to conduct technology-based research that will help find solutions to problems facing not only UENR but also issues of national interest. Prof. Harrison Dapaah assured that the university will ensure that the drone is put to its maximum use to support teaching and research activities geared towards national development.
Also present were the Registrar, Mr Solomon Panford; Dean, School of Engineering, Prof. Nana Safo Derkyi and Head of Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre, Dr Mark Amo Boateng.
