Associate Professor Emmanuel Opoku Marfo is an accomplished academic and governance expert specializing in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability. He is the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani.
Professor Marfo served as Head of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation (CEBI) at UENR for the year 2024. He also served as a Commissioner on the Governing Board of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), appointed by the President of the Republic of Ghana for the 2020–2024 term. Prior to his current role as Dean, he was Acting Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences from 2022 to 2024, and earlier Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Sciences from 2020 to 2022.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance (2004) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, both from the University of Lincoln, UK. In 2016, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management Science and Engineering, specializing in Corporate Finance, from Jiangsu University, China. He is also a trained Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Management (UK) and a Professional Fellow in Administration and Management Consultancy (Ghana).
Before joining academia, Professor Marfo gained over seven years of banking experience with Nsoatreman Rural Bank in Sunyani. He also served as Secretary to the Sustainable Development Committee for the ten catchment areas of Newmont Ahafo Mines, and as Chief Executive Officer of Klimason Company, where he led the construction of libraries and teachers’ bungalows as part of Newmont’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Beyond academia, he contributes significantly to public governance, corporate oversight, and policy development. He currently serves as Chairman or Member on several Boards and Committees, including:

• Chairman, Audit Committee, Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC)

• Chairman, Audit Committee, St. Ambrose College of Education
• Member, Audit Committee, Berekum College of Education
• Chairman, Board of Directors, Nsoatreman Rural Bank Plc
• Council Member, Association of Rural Banks – Ghana
• Chairman, UENR- Enterprise Board
