The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Alumni Association launched the 2026 Alumni Month of August celebration on Monday, 3rd August 2026 at the RCEES Seminar Room. Held under the theme “Harnessing Alumni Partnerships for Sustainable Development,” the month long celebration seeks to reposition alumni as strategic partners in UENR’s growth while creating opportunities for mentorship, career development, networking and institutional advancement.
Speaking at the event, the Global Alumni Chairperson, Ms. Janat Issifu, outlined key initiatives for the 2026 Alumni Month, including the launch of the official UENR Alumni website and career portal developed in collaboration with the University Relations Office. She explained that the platform will provide alumni with access to job opportunities, internships, scholarships, career resources and professional development materials to support their advancement.
As part of the Association’s commitment to improving the University’s physical environment, Ms. Issifu announced the donation of 55 buckets of paint towards the University Face-lift Project, which will support the renovation of selected campus buildings. She further announced plans to expand alumni engagement through the establishment of more chapters, including the inauguration of the Greater Accra Chapter and the launch of an Alumni Endowment Fund to support sustainable projects. Ms. Issifu noted that the Association has already contributed to student development through scholarships for brilliant but needy students and encouraged graduates to continue giving back through mentorship, professional opportunities, and resource support.
The Head of Advancement and Alumni Relations Office, Mr. James Clarke Hayford, highlighted UENR’s remarkable growth trajectory, noting that the University has evolved from struggling with student recruitment to becoming one of Ghana’s highly subscribed institutions. He attributed the growth to the quality of education, innovation, and the calibre of graduates produced by the University. He noted that UENR’s reputation continues to expand, attracting students from some of Ghana’s leading secondary schools and gaining recognition for excellence in science, technology, and innovation. He emphasized that the institution’s success should be measured by the quality and impact of its graduates rather than only its physical infrastructure.
Mr. Hayford encouraged students and alumni to take pride in the UENR brand and become deliberate ambassadors of the University, stressing that the institution’s greatest asset remains the knowledge, skills, and contributions of its graduates.
Representing the Head of the University Relations Office, Rev. Amoah Kwaku Karikari urged alumni to look beyond personal achievements and focus on building a collective legacy that transforms future generations. He noted that the purpose of higher education extends beyond awarding certificates, explaining that universities exist to change lives, transform communities and shape the future. He described alumni as the true representatives of the University’s reputation, stressing that their actions and achievements influence how the institution is perceived globally.
Rev. Karikari encouraged alumni to embrace active participation in the development of UENR through mentorship, scholarships, career support and other initiatives. He called for a culture where graduates continuously support the institution that contributed to their personal and professional growth.
The former Chairperson of the Alumni Association, Ing. Lewis Ofori Amankona, commended the current leadership for advancing initiatives that were conceived during his tenure. He emphasized the importance of unity among alumni, noting that the growth and reputation of UENR are directly connected to the commitment of its graduates. He encouraged alumni to move beyond being passive supporters and actively participate in mentorship, networking, and infrastructure development initiatives that will benefit current and future students.
The Head of University Security, Mr. Abdulai Zakaria, also praised the Alumni Association for its contributions to institutional development, particularly its support to the Security Department through the donation of communication equipment to enhance operations. He urged alumni to maintain a strong and united association that future graduates would be proud to join. He encouraged members to continue supporting university initiatives and building a legacy that strengthens UENR’s reputation both locally and internationally.
The 2026 Alumni Month celebration is expected to feature a series of activities aimed at strengthening connections among graduates, promoting professional development and deepening alumni contributions towards the continued growth and transformation of UENR.
